I'm Becca and I'm an AP artist. I enjoy working with found papers to create a collage and then adding encaustic wax to create mixed media pieces. I have my style but I'm not positive as to what my concentration is. I hope to go to SCAD and pursue a career in graphic design.

This is my second summer assignment, "dishwasher". I took a break from the monochromatic color scheme. I used painted newspaper for the background and then using a paint pen and sharpie pen I used experimented with typography to create detail on the "dish". I used cardboard to make the rim of the dish and then used encaustic wax to create drips that are supposed to resemble water splashing. I think this piece is missing something but I don't know what... suggestions??(again not the best picture sorry)

Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteI think the photos are fine. In fact, both you and Abby took good photos this time, including the detail shots.
I'm glad to see you experimenting with different materials and processes. This is the time to take some risks and see what works.
I'm encouraged by you being open to suggestions too. Although I'm not seeing it in person, I will agree that there is a missing element. Two suggestions that may or may not work: 1) maybe adding a contrast in shine by making the dish glossy and the neg. space matte, or 2)painting one of the words with a neutral color to give the viewer a focal point, something the eye can grip on to.
The implied texture on the edge of the dish looks very interesting.
Thanks for your suggestions Brandt :) I'll have to play around and see what works.
